This outdoor dining set for six is proof that quality materials and craftsmanship last forever.

How We Chose These Products

Outdoor spaces range from big backyards to barely there balconies, so we selected the best outdoor patio dining sets that represent a variety of needs. We looked for options in a selection of sizes and shapes, as well as price points and styles. Easy, and preferably free, shipping was important, as were quality materials that will withstand wild weather. Every patio set we selected had to check all of those boxes. That way you’re one step closer to happy hour on the patio. (You’re welcome.)

Our Shopping Checklist

Style

No shocker here: Cool and classic style was at the top of our shopping checklist, particularly innovative lines, functional features, and a look you’ll love forever. A patio set is meant to last you years and years, after all.

Materials

Patio furniture sees the best of social times and the worst of weather times. To ensure yours stays in good condition for years to come, invest in quality materials designed specifically for the outdoors, whether that’s hardy teak, rust-proof iron, or otherwise. Trusted materials, as well as loving care and maintenance, will ensure a little rainstorm won’t damage your set.

Shipping

Shipping such a large purchase can be nerve-racking—and expensive. Many of these sets offer free shipping, though, and arrive in slim boxes that are easy to carry and unpack. Still, be sure to read the shipping conditions carefully before purchasing.

Care and Maintenance

With a major purchase often comes some responsibility. We chose patio sets that require as little maintenance as possible and are easily portable, too—like chairs that stack or sets that fold—so you can stash them away when needed. To extend the life span of your patio set, follow the care directions as closely as possible. A cover helps. So does storing it away for the winter.

Ask Domino

Q: I love a mismatched look. Do patio sets have to match?

No way—you do you! (The same goes for all things design related.) Many patio dining tables and chairs are sold separately, so mix and match to your eclectic heart’s desire. Choose different materials for the table and chairs, or nab chairs of different colors and styles for a bohemian look.

Q: What is the easiest patio furniture to keep clean?

Wood and wicker are the most finicky patio set materials, and they occasionally need to be treated for weather damage. If you want to keep it simple, stick with metal that can simply be wiped down. Before purchasing patio dining furniture, though, be sure to read through the recommended care. And if your patio chairs have cushions, opt for removable covers that can be thrown in the wash.

Q: Can patio furniture get wet?

Yes, but oftentimes not without consequence, depending on the material. Remember: Water-resistant is not the same as waterproof. Wood is the most vulnerable to moisture, so cover it with a protective sealant and treat the wood annually. And no matter the material of your patio furniture, consider purchasing a protective cover to keep your big purchase in tip-top condition. If possible, store it indoors for the winter. As dangerous as rain is for patio furniture, ice and snow are tenfold.

The Last Word

The best patio dining sets create an inviting space to enjoy fresh air and company all summer long. No matter how big or small your patio, balcony, or backyard, shop intentionally to find the perfect setting for your style and space.
