For the fickle home decorator, dropping large sums of money on one art piece doesn’t make much sense. If you need your decor to be able to change as quickly as your tastes do, digital art may be the solution for your decorating woes—from hi-tech photo frames to streaming services that give you access to thousands of art pieces, there is an almost endless supply of digital art displays to choose from. To help you narrow down your search, here are a few of our favorites.
Loupe
Dubbed “Spotify for art lovers”, this free service allows you to stream a constantly-expanding portfolio of art from around the world directly onto your televisions or smart devices. Choose from conventional oil paintings to mixed media to abstract art, and display a slideshow of your favorite pieces. See a piece you like and want to integrate it into your home in a more tangible way? You can order it directly via your mobile device through the app, and have it shipped to your home.
Aura Frames
Digital photo frames are a great way to showcase memories, but often they aren’t very design-oriented. These pieces by Aura fit seamlessly into your decor—and they’ve even recruited an expert to ensure that. In addition to the three standard colorways, the company collaborated with designer Jonathan Adler for a fourth frame in a bold blue shade with gold detailing that will be out later this fall. This marks the beginning of Adler’s tenure as Creative Director in Residence for the company, meaning that we can expect more limited edition frames coming out soon.
Frame TV
Designed by Yves Behar for Samsung, the original Frame TV model was released earlier this year. The electronics company is expanding the technology, bringing on two new designers to create more options for customization of the art-displaying screen. According to Curbed, the original model could be filled with one of 100 pieces of art from galleries around the world; now, thanks to the two new designers, customers can also access new pieces created specifically for the product when the screen is not in use. In other words, you have a piece of wall art readily available 24/7 instead of just a blank screen.
Meural
Meural is a simply-designed wall frame that gives you instant access to over 30,000 pieces of art at the wave of a hand—you can also control it remotely via the company’s website and app. Choose from three sleek, minimalist frame options in either white, black, or wooden lightbox, and get started. With partners ranging from Condé Nast to the New York Public Library, you’ll have access to pretty much every genre and style of art.
Depict
This digital canvas offers a 4K ultra-HD resolution for museum-quality art pieces. You can either use it to display your own photos and images, streaming from any iOs device, or showcase art from Depict’s collections. The best part? It’s completely risk-free—the company is offering a trial period of 30 days.
Blackdove
The Blackdove app provides a rotating monthly selection of art that is easily displayed on any smart screen. The company pulls from a network of global artists to provide a video art collection of over 400 works. You can choose from a curated playlist, get recommendations for artwork tailored to your taste, and even explore new works daily with Blackdove’s subscription offering.
