Anne Hathaway’s new “cottage style” home is anything but a cottage. According to Variety, the Oscar-winning actress just picked up a sprawling estate in Westport, Connecticut for $2.79 million. Higgins Group Real Estate held the listing.

The five bedroom, six bathroom property sits along the Connecticut shoreline, and every one of its 4,561 square feet oozes seaside sophistication. Bright white, natural materials, and tons of light streaming in through the windows play up the home’s covetable beach location. More elegant features—such as an ornamental English garden, a stone fireplace, and a smattering of crystal chandeliers—balance out the beach vibe nicely.

Those more old-school elements could be attributed to the fact that the home was built in 1920; though since then, it has undergone full renovations to include more contemporary updates.

Downstairs, a custom kitchen boasts gorgeous granite counters and shiplap ceilings. A nearby formal dining room opens up onto a terrace and second kitchen—this one outdoors—with state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances perfect for entertaining.

The second floor includes all of the bedrooms, which feature exposed wooden beams and A-line ceilings. The master suite even has its own massive deck, overlooking the property.

If Hathaway is ever short on space, a 1,518 square foot barn/cabana also sits on the property and includes a second kitchen with the prettiest littlebreakfast nookA pool, built-in wooden playground, and brick patio finish off the outside space.

While Connecticut may seem a slightly more out-there choice for an A-lister’s home—at least compared to the usual celeb hubs of Los Angeles and New York City—Hathaway isn’t the first to see the appeal of seaside living in the state. Katharine Hepburn’s one-time family home (a massive estate that sits on 1.5 acres of land and is nestled on the Long Island Sound) just went off the market for $11.5 million according to Elle Decor.

And Hathaway herself seems to be a fan of East Coast living: The actress and her family purchased an apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side back in 2016. Whether she plans on selling that to move into her new Connecticut digs full time or just use the new home as a city escape remains to be seen, but all in all it’s a pretty covetable real estate position to be in.
