Of Mercer’s creative director Aja Singer’s wedding registry was all about turning her new apartment into a home. After her husband, Charlie O’Donnell—a start-up tech guru who competes in triathlons and doubles as a recreational ice hockey goalie—convinced her to move to Brooklyn, they purchased a quaint place in Park Slope. He proposed the next day. Just three short months later they were married at The Green Building in Gowanus.
With a fresh space in tow, Singer used their wedding registry as an opportunity to transform their sweet digs into a home. The couple opted for pieces that would play to their love of entertaining, spending cozy nights in, and a few indulgences to boot.
Ahead, we asked the newlyweds to share the 10 things they can’t live without—from chunky knit throws to sushi sets and more, all available on Amazon.
The Culinary Staple
This has been the single best addition to our kitchen since the wedding. It makes cooking super-easy, cooks everything perfectly; we have experimented with a bunch of recipes, from salmon to lentils.
The Temperature Controller
This fan was a lifesaver over the summer. It’s super-quiet and cools a room quickly–especially useful because I insist on using a heavy duvet even in the summer, much to my husband’s dismay!
The Bedroom Hero
We registered for two single beds, with the goal of combining them into a king-size. We searched for a model that had storage, but was also minimal and fit with our aesthetic. We found one that came with built-in drawers, which is perfect—it keeps our clothes off the floor!
The Indulgent Treat
My husband is obsessed with ice cream and this was his one must-have on our registry. For our wedding, we had Ample Hills make a custom flavor inspired by cookies each of our grandmothers used to bake. We have eaten our way through the leftovers, so this will save us from ordering another massive batch.
The Perfect Picture
We moved into our apartment last Spring and our walls are still completely bare. We registered for a bunch of different frame sizes so now I can finally hang (and enjoy!) the art I’ve had laying around. Plus, I can frame some of our favorite wedding pictures as well!
The Ode to the Past
We are both sushi lovers and our first big trip together was to Japan. I love the abstract blue ink splatter print on this set. It allows me to pretend I am there, even if only for the short amount of time it takes me to eat.
The Dinner Party Must-Have
I came across Hawkins New York on a weekend in Hudson and love everything they have, especially their pink marble serving board. I am not much of a cook, but cheese boards are my specialty and this is the perfect foundation to show off my plating skills.
The Perfect Wrap
I had been searching for a super-chunky knit blanket when I came across this one; I love the texture it adds to our living room. Now that the weather is starting to get cooler, my happy place is on the couch reading while wrapped up in a blanket.
The Little Luxury
I like to feel like I’m in a cocoon when I get out of the shower so I am a very big fan of bath towels. These are super-cozy, plush, and the smoke color is the perfect shade of blue-grey.
The Plant Parent Staple
We each brought quite a few plants with us when we moved in together, so we were in need of some planters to give them a little upgrade. My Jade plant looks happy in its new home.
The Elevated Servingware
We both love entertaining, but it became very clear that we needed more tableware the first time we had company and we had to serve bagels in a colander. A subtly patterned and colored bowl was a much-needed upgrade for our brunch spread.
