Traveling in a big group soon? Airbnb just launched a new feature that basically eliminates the financial headache of having to ensure everyone pays their portion of the booking fee. Split Payments, a new addition to Airbnb’s payment platform, lets travelers divide the cost upfront.
And with this new technology making group travel easier than ever, we’re already looking to track down the best properties for groups available on the vacation rental site. Here are some of our favorites—start taking advantage of the useful feature ASAP.
Villa Askyfou; Crete, Greece
This traditional villa-style home is nestled in the mountainous landscape of Crete, offering a different perspective on a traditional Greek island holiday than the stereotype. It sleeps 14 people and has just as much outdoor space as it does indoor; plus, it has a pool. The best part? It’s only $98 per night.
The Paul Mitchell Estate; Kailua, Hawaii
Looking to splurge? You (and 15 of your closest friends) can stay at famous hairdresser Paul Mitchell’s Hawaiian estate for the low, low price of $6,250 a night. The 1.3 acre beachfront property has everything from a gym to a saltwater swimming pool (with a hot tub) to a Japanese Bath House and meditation pond. You’ll be in good company: Rihanna onced stayed here too.
Casa Mar Y Cielo; San Bernardo, Colombia
Make your next family holiday one for the books and stay at a private island. No, seriously—this two story home fits 10 people and comes with a slew of memorable water activities like scuba diving, kitesurfing, and going on a night swim with plankton. You can even arrange to have a private chef (and bartender) come cook for you during your stay.
Laurel Island; East Hampton, Connecticut
For a different kind of private island experience, book your group holiday in this New England gem. Full of East Coast charm and covetable seclusion, the rental can sleep up to 36 people. The island includes five separate cabins, and there’s a main lodge for group activities. Situated directly on the waterfront, it’s lakefront living at its finest.
Ballyhannon Castle; Clare, Ireland
Sometimes when you have a large group, only a castle will do. Standing at five stories high with the ability to fit 10 people, this 15th century Celtic castle is definitely not an Airbnb experience you will soon forget. It even has a minstrel’s gallery and a dungeon; you know, just the vacation essentials. While the castle is fairly secluded, it’s near three local villages so you can soak up some modern Irish culture too.
Waterfront Cottage; Montauk, New York
Perfect for a smaller group (the home sleeps six), this waterfront cottage has some seriously stunning views. Originally built in the 1930s, it’s maintained its old-school charm while still incorporating a few modern updates here and there. It would make a great fall or spring escape; book now, if only for the gorgeous sunroom offering a first-row seat to the adjacent pond.
Casa Tucana; Puntarenas, Costa Rica
This colorful home is minutes from the ocean, making it a prime seaside escape if your group is more beach-inclined. Though the home’s amenities make it worth the international travel alone: It boasts a yoga terrace (hammocks included, for prime relaxation opportunities), a saltwater pool, a ping pong table, and a barbecue. The villa sleeps 10 people, so start planning your group getaway now.
Megalight II; Île de France, France
Minutes from several Parisian landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and even Versailles, this houseboat offers incomparable views of the Seine given that you would quite literally be on it. Ideal for smaller groups of up to six people, it’s a great way to see the French capital from a different perspective.
Sunny Penthouse; Lisbon, Portugal
Grab five friends and head to one of the year’s hottest travel destinations. Look out over Lisbon in this penthouse Airbnb, which is full of natural light and wooden materials. There is plenty of space to lounge about—including hammocks—and relax when you’re done exploring the city.
Loft at the Domaine de Roucayrols; Midi-Pyrénées, France.
You might not get the entire home in this Airbnb (the rental is comprised of the second floor of a 19th century house), but given that the loft alone can fit 10 guests there’s definitely no shortage of space. Beautiful brick features and wooden ceiling beams lend a rustic feel to the space. Guests can take full advantage of the outdoor amenities, which include table tennis and a pool.
