If there is one thing we love about travel—aside from the whole getaway aspect and the R&R that typically ensues—it's the opportunity that one gets to sample local cuisine. And whether you tend to side with fine dining or casual eateries (or a mix of the two), it always seems like there is a little something extra special when it comes to the cafes and restaurants situated abroad. With that in mind, we sought out the well-designed and vibrantly-decked eateries from across the globe, for some much-needed inspiration on decorating with color. Take a look.
La Sponda, Positano, Italy
Chances are, you've heard of this Amalfi Coast mainstay, or at least seen it while scrolling through Pinterest or Instagram—and for good reason. Set against a backdrop that boasts panoramic views of the Italian sealine, this Michelin-starred eatery may feature the typical whitewashed interior draped with loads of greenery, but there is nothing ordinary when it comes to the allure of the saturated exterior.
The Pink Zebra, Kanupur, India
We're getting serious Wes Anderson vibes from this one. The aptly named restaurant shows no restraint when it comes to the design, and rightfully so. Intricate zebra-inspired stripes, a saturated splash of pink, and an abundance of natural light contribute to the ultra unique aesthetic of this truly one-of-a-kind spot.
Cafe Medi, New York, NY
NYC's Cafe Medi not only provides city-dwellers with a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life but, it also manages to take on this year's biggest trend in tile design with effortless ease. Here, color comes by way of the pops of ocean blues, boldly earmarked for the walls, and the deep jewel-toned furnishings, which together form a vision that's simply unparalleled.
Bar Botanique, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Think of this as a little dose of the tropics, conveniently situated in the heart of Amsterdam. Bar Botanique's bold pairing of blues and green (splashes of pink make cameos as well) designate the spot as a true oasis. Filled with an abundance of palms and various other greens, it's a serious treat for the senses.
Saúl Bistro, Majadas Once, Guatemala
Geometric tiles, scattered pops of the oh-so-trendy combo of yellow and green, and tropical elements that take things to the extra mile—what's not to love about this vibrantly cheerful spot? If there's one lesson learned from this eclectic scene, it's that baby blues and retro greens make quite the pairing.
Night + Market Song, Venice, California
This Insta-famous eatery definitely does not hold back on the whole design front and honestly, it's one of the (many) reasons why it's a staple on our list. Well, that and the fact that the cuisine is actually just as great. Moody lighting, neon lights, beaded curtains, and graphic wall art designate this rad spot as a must.
Caffe Palladio, Jaipur, India
Can you say wallpaper goals? Saffron hues, pistachio-toned marble, and verdant garden murals are just a few of the stunning design details, which have shot this eatery to international fame.
Kessalao, Bonn, Germany
This one is simply proof that as long as you're working with a monochromatic and neutral base, you can really just layer on colors to your heart's content. From the vibrant slew of primary hues to the slivers of deep purples and powdery blues, this casual spot is serving up all the inspo we could want.
