When the weather gets warmer and the sunlight lingers longer, it’s harder and harder to stay focused in the office. But summer, with its bright colors and carefree vibes, can also be a hotbed for new ideas, so this season, in between lazy weekends at the beach, we vow to cultivate our creative power. Our biggest inspiration? Writers, activists, and all-around badass boss ladies Cleo Wade and Elaine Welteroth—the dynamic duo gracing the cover of our summer 2018 issue.

The friendship of Wade and Welteroth—which they describe as a “modern day millennial girl crush”—is as inspiring as the vibrant office they turned into a creative haven for collaboration. Filled with colors, textures, and plants, the office is a total dream space (tucked inside a WeWork) that we would happily report to every day this summer (take a look for yourself).

But because we know the importance of balancing work and play, our latest issue has plenty of fun ideas to help you have your best summer yet (do we say that every year?). We’ve got the only list of summer essentials that you’ll ever need, whether you’re looking to plan a picnic in the park or make a splash at the pool, and the ultimate guide to creating the perfect outdoor living room, no matter your style.

Plus, it’s the season of entertaining, so we’ve got tips galore, including fun new ways to dress up your drinks, Tulum-inspired recipes from chef Camille Becerra, and your go-to playlist featuring sounds of the south curated by Nashville local and Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach.

And of course, we’ll take you inside a slew of inspiring spaces, from the jaw-droppingly gorgeous Skylark Negril Beach Resort in Jamaica to the minimalist Los Angeles office of clothing designer Jesse Kamm to the intimate Manhattan apartment of cool-girl DJ Mia Moretti, and more.
