A First Look at Joanna Gaines’ Upcoming Cookbook

Mark your calendars for April.

After spending an appropriate amount of time in mourning following the announcement that Fixer Upper will soon be ending, we eagerly anticipated any and all new projects from Chip and Joanna Gaines. And luckily, we didn’t have to wait long: Back in September, Joanna announced that a new cookbook showcasing some of the couple’s favorite recipes was officially in the works. Now, thanks to a recent Instagram announcement, we finally know what the cover looks like—and when the book is hitting shelves.

“I finally get to share my new cookbook, Magnolia Table, with you all!” writes Gaines. “It will officially be out April 24, 2018, just in time for Mother’s Day, but you can order it in advance today should you want to gift a pre-order this holiday season, or if you want to ensure you get one hot off the press.”

Don’t want to wait until spring for access to some of Gaines’ favorite family recipes (which, according to her original Instagram post from September 22, include brownie pie and mac and cheese)? We get it—and apparently, so does Gaines. In addition to the Instagram reveal, the designer also shared a few recipes on her blog. From green beans amandine and spiced pecan pie to the aforementioned mac and cheese, you can find a handful of dishes perfect for holiday entertaining.

As you may have guessed from its name, The Magnolia Table Cookbook will feature some standouts from the design duo’s upcoming restaurant Magnolia Table, which is also slated to open in the spring of 2018. First announced earlier this summer, the restaurant is said to be built around breakfast, and will include hearty comfort foods like homemade biscuits with crafted jams—a personal favorite of Gaines’—and something called the Gaines Brothers Burger.

“For the past year or so, I have spent almost every Saturday morning perfecting this biscuit recipe, and we finally have one that has the seal of approval from Chip and the kids. If you’re able to visit us here in Waco, be sure to stop by the restaurant and try them. Or if you can’t come here, grab a copy of the cookbook and make a batch at home,” says Gaines.

For those of us still convalescing from the news that one of our favorite design shows is ending, this cookbook is just one of the silver linings to come from the fact that Chip and Joanna are taking time to focus on other projects. Their recently-released home decor collection in partnership with Target makes the couple’s signature style accessible and affordable to fans across the US. From festive decor to pet beds and everything in between, the line blends contemporary and classic for pieces that are meant to last.

The couple also recently completed a renovation on their second vacation home rental, which is available now. And both of them are individually working on their own books: Joanna’s is a design book featuring the designer's tips and tricks, while Chip’s is a memoir that was released earlier this fall.

So, while the Fixer Upper news is sad, this is definitely not the last we’ll be seeing of the First Couple of HGTV. And until the book officially comes out in April, we’ll just be over here making batches of Gaines’ famous mac and cheese.
