a family-friendly bohemian
When decorating a space for a young, family of four, Becki Owens
had one thing in mind, embracing the bohemiam feel of the San Clemente, California home.
By creating a space that was both warm and inviting, Owens strived to reflect
the laid back lifestyle of the beachside home, while still managing to maintain a chic aesthetic.

What inspired this remodel?
In this space, it was all about making it stylish and livable for a family with two small children, while keeping it budget-friendly. I started with this console and wanted it to be the focal point of the room. I added a gold mirror, which I felt really opened up the space. The textiles in this home were a combination of vintage and new prints, it was so fun to mix and match different patterns.

What was the goal for the kitchen and dining area?
My goal was to maximize the space, making it feel larger and more open. The oval tulip table was a great fit to break up all the square lines of the kitchen. I decided to go with a bench seat instead of extra chairs, to help to conserve space. One of my favorite elements is the glass globe pendant. It makes a beautiful visual statement without closing off the room.

What were the major elements that set the tone for the living space?
The light in this room was a fun addition, they originally had an ordinary ceiling fan there. The mid-century, brass chandelier gives the space a modern edge with a little shine. This living area is a great mix of mid-century, modern, bohemian, and vintage finds. It really expresses the vibe of this bohemian and eclectic home.
What's your favorite part of the redesign?
One of my favorite pieces in this home is the wall macrame tapestry in the kitchen. It gives the space texture and a boho vibe.
What were the essentials when it came to furnishing the entryway?
The homeowner loves plants and so do I, so we wanted to incorporate them into every space. The baskets in this entry area are also one of my favorite parts! I love the texture and pattern they add to this entry space.
