Meet BRANDY BROWN-BERGQUIST, the
creative force behind Marabou Design, and
Minted + domino’s featured monthly artist!

After the birth of her daughter in 2007, Pacific
Northwest native Brandy Brown-Bergquist, found
herself in need of a modern and original note set
to announce the big news. With a background in
art history and graphic design from The Art
Institute of Seattle, she set out to create a
stationery line that complemented her eclectic
aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from her travels
abroad, she taught herself the essentials and let
her passions take on wings of their own. Today,
the stylist and DIY lover, spends her days
celebrating life’s many special occasions and
indulging in any excuse to bake a cake. She
talks with us about the importance of organization and the key to maintaining a beautiful home.

Where do you feel most inspired?
My daughter is a huge source of inspiration
for me, along with any life event that goes
on around her. Life is a series of
inspirations, which can strike at any
moment. I strive to garner these moments. Whether it’s derived from nature, life, or design, there’s always an opportunity to decorate and create.

How would you describe your
personal style?
The words eclectic and contemporary
come to mind. I love clean lines, simple
shapes, and natural materials. I often
look to flea markets, estate sales, and
modern boutiques for such finds and
anything that promotes function.

What makes a home beautiful?
Organization. Without a doubt.
Function and good form encourages
clarity and positive energy. When it
comes to being a mom, you have to
maintain some form of organization.

What’s your most prized possession??
A few come to mind, namely from my antique
mirror collection. My favorite is a 19th century
double gilded mirror from an antique store in
Seattle. It’s absolutely stunning.

On what items do you scrimp?
I’m always on the hunt for hidden treasures,
especially when I’m on the East Coast. I have
over 25 floral vases, none of which I have
paid more than $25. They are gorgeous
and finely crafted.

On what do you splurge?
My number one splurge: bed linens. You
can’t go wrong with a 100% Egyptian cotton
set in all white. I love it!
