In his purist approach to architecture and interior design, Finnish-born Eero Saarinen sought the essential idea and reduced it to the most effective structural solution within an overall unity of design. To that end, he designed the Tulip Chair with Seat Cushion in terms of its setting - the space the chair would occupy - rather than a particular shape.
The Tulip Chair with Seat Cushion features an upholstered foam seat cushion. Cushions are removable, with a zippered cover and Velcro fastening. Base and shell finishes are available in White, Black or Platinum. Available with fixed or swivel base. Recipient of the Museum of Modern Art Award, 1969, Federal Award for Industrial Design Award, 1969 and Design Center Stuttgart Award, 1962.
