Published September 1, 1968. Conchita Cintrón clasps her white Arabian horse in this Henry Clarke image. Peruvian Cintrón was a world-famous bullfighter during the 1930s and '40s, one of the best-known female competitors. She was a rejoneadora, a horse-riding bullfighter, rather than a matadora, one who fights on foot, which was illegal for women. The photograph appeared in the September 1, 1968, Vogue. Artist by Henry Clarke
