Published March 1, 1924. Dancer Maurice Mouvet, 'Monsieur Maurice,' and his partner, Leonora Hughes, were a popular dance team on both sides of the Atlantic during the 1920s. Maurice cared so much about dance that he helped assemble a congress of teachers to ensure that dances remained pure. Edward Steichen's stunning black and white portrait of the couple dancing across a checked marble floor appeared in the March 1924 Vanity Fair. Artist by Edward Steichen
