Published April 1, 1934. Gloria Swanson, who for many still embodies the ideal of the Hollywood star, fittingly also portrayed one in her most famous role, that of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. Long before that performance, however, Swanson had already established her talent on the silent screen in several films by Cecil B. DeMille.
