[UPDATE] Remember when news broke that our favorite design duo, Chip and Joanna Gaines, purchased a restaurant—with a promise for more details to come in 2017? Well, they surprised us by announcing, exclusively with Southern Living on October 25, that the old Elite Café will be turned into a breakfast joint.
Chip told Southern Living, "I’ve always been a breakfast connoisseur. I always do a heavy, bigger breakfast, but Jo is the exact opposite. She was kind enough to come with me on this one, and we are going to do up a breakfast joint here in town."
After purchasing the iconic restaurant, the couple auctioned off the original decor to benefit Mission Waco’s Jubilee Food Market, which left them with an empty space in need of some serious "elbow grease", as Chip said.
He continued, "Now, everybody that comes in tells me how smart I was to have bought this property. Six months ago, I wasn’t getting as many encouragements. But the restaurant has some serious history that we’re going to tap into."
The Elite Café-turned-Fixer Upper fan destination will open in summer 2017 and we cannot wait to see the design... and the menu.

[Original: 5/11] Well isn't this exciting? Everyone's favorite couple from HGTV, Chip and Joanna Gaines, recently made a purchase that we'd consider a bit out of the ordinary for the interior design-focused couple. They bought the now-shuttered Elite Café in Waco, Texas, a local establishment that had been in business for almost 100 years! No news yet on what Chip and Joanna intend to do with the space, but we'll (sadly) have to wait until 2017 to find out.
