A group of indigenous people from Alaska, called the Yupik, traditionally spent spring and summer time as families at fish camp, then joined with others at village sites for the winter. Many families still harvest the traditional subsistence resources, especially salmon and seal. The travel to search for food and the resistance to cold weather of these people are represented on the Yupik Rug, made of hand-tufted dyed wood, like the routes they have taken for all of these years.
