Growing up in sunny California, Katie Keyworth's main source of artistic inspiration stemmed from the beauty of the surrounding outdoors. While nature played an integral role in her developing aesthetic, Keyworth's pursuit for a more formal form of education led her to complete a degree in Fine Arts from Pepperdine University. Following graduation, she made an unsolicited move to Dallas, where a close friend had recently enrolled in medical school. She began working at an architectural firm, and experimented with painting on the side. It quickly took up a life of its own, after which Keyworth finally decided to pursue her dreams full time!

Matthew Sampson spent the summer weekends of his senior year of college traveling around Northern California, visiting national parks and exploring San Francisco. Inspired by the beauty of the landscape, the self-taught photographer invested in his first camera, and hasn’t put it down since! He credits his artistic streak to his father, a pre-computer era graphic designer, and grandfather, watercolor painter by hobby. Sampson, who received a degree in chemistry, currently resides in California, with his girlfriend, where he is pursuing a Ph.D. in chemistry at UC-San Diego. Here, he touches on his love for nature and the quintessentially nostalgic retreat of his childhood.

As a child, Jaime Derringer bonded with her grandmother over art kits and calligraphy sets. A memory an inspiration that she carried with her as she embarked down a more “realistic” career path. Her unconventional route into the art world began with a job in medical publishing, followed by a 10 year stretch in marketing and advertising. In 2006, Derringer began experimenting with drawing and design by studying Japanese culture and Indian art. A need to share her new knowledge inspired Derringer to launch Design Milk, an online destination that served as an outlet for her creative interests. Three years later, she quit her job to pursue her dreams full-time, and has never looked back!

Minnesota native, Stacy Kron spent her childhood drawing, painting, and fashioning unique compositions from little scraps of paper. Her passion for the arts led to a degree and eventually a series of stints at various design studios, where she further developed her creative voice. Following the birth of her first daughter, Kron put in her two weeks notice and embarked on an impending freelance career. Through word of mouth she collected leads, and soon enough the artist and self-taught photographer had established her own design studio. Here, Kron touches on her love for design and the one place she can always count on to spark her imagination.

In 2003, Kelly Ventura faced the age-old “now what?” post-grad predicament. Armed with a background in painting and a degree, she made the move to the Big Apple seeking the myriad opportunities offered within the arts. Internships paved the way towards a role at a custom wallpaper design company, which led to a spot at a high-end rug design firm. It was the progression of seeing a sketch turn into a finished piece that prompted the reinforcement of the influential significance of design. Misty Hughes’ lifelong appreciation for abstract expressionism cultivated her pursuit of the arts. The sculptures and paintings, which complemented a mid-century modern design aesthetic, inspired her journey, following a 20-year-long post at American Greetings. After evenings spent poring over images from a never-ending cycle of library books, Hughes began developing her artistic voice through experimentation and design. Here, she touches on her unique creative process and the one thing she can’t live without.

Kelli Hall knew she wanted to be an artist ever since she could hold a crayon.
Her artistic pursuits were fueled by a passion for oil painting coupled with a
degree in Fine Arts from Georgia State. Following a stint designing toy
packaging, Hall, a minimalist at heart, worked towards channeling more subtle
vibes within her creative endeavors. Today, she spends her days exploring
color and art with her 3-year-old son Luke, gently guiding him into her world.
Here, she touches on the importance of maintaining balance in décor and
revealing the elements that drive her inspiration.
With a background in art history and graphic design from the Art Institute
of Seattle, she set out to create a stationery line that complemented her
eclectic aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from her travels abroad, she taught
herself the essentials and let her passions take on wings of their own.
Today, the stylist and DIY lover, spends her days celebrating life’s many
special occasions and indulging in any excuse to bake a cake. Here, she

University—it’s no surprise that Karly
Depew has found her success in the
design world. Karly now spends her
days creating a range of delightful
stationery goods, all hand-designed
with Depew’s signature mix of
elegant script and playful color.
Kristi Kohut recognized her passion for the arts at an
exceptionally young age. With an impeding belief that
making a living of it was inconceivable, she set out for a
degree in Journalism, which lead to a career in advertising
upon graduation. After sampling a series of artistic courses
at The New School, Kohut was inspired to create a portfolio,
which prompted the inevitable switch to the creative side of
her field. Years later, following the birth of her son, it was
her husband who encouraged her to stay home and pursue
her dreams of opening up a studio. Here, the Chicago-based
mixed media artist and designer, shares her thoughts on style,
decor, and the key to a happy home.
