Today, however, this sleepy little town is better known to San Diegans for the delicious apple pies that are baked daily. The town comes to life every fall during the Apple Festival held the last weekend of September following the harvest of the apples. Along with expected activities like music, crafts, and of course, a pie eating contest, apple picking is a fun experience for the entire family. In fact, many of the city slickers who attend the festival have never seen an apple growing on a tree and kids are always excited to be outdoors and active! The experience of a trip to the orchard and a day spent wandering through the shops and restaurants in this little town is worth the short trip to the mountains. Don't leave town without a freshly baked apple pie!
